The where?

Morley, West Yorkshire, of course. However, whilst we are in our formative days, the intention is to cover other towns and districts in the surrounding South Leeds area.

The what?

Morleymums is a website created by one relatively new Morley mum for the benefit of all Morley mums, whether they are new to the whole thing or whether they've been there before and done all that. The central aim of the website is to provide Morley parents with all the information they need to know about events and services, both locally and further afield, which may be of interest to them, whether they are looking for something to keep their active kids busy or need to know what assistance is out there to help them.

The why?

Being both new to motherhood and to the Morley area, I have, at times, struggled to find information about what services may or may not be out there for people in my situation. Even with the dawn of the internet age, and the access to the number of useful sites which this has brought, I found these to be too general in nature and that, given their national bias,  they failed to provide me with much in the way of information specific to my new found home.

Now that my son is a little less of a handful, and now that I have a little more time on my hands, I thought it would be useful to create my own site, bringing together all the knowledge, about local facilities and organisations, that I have accumulated over the past year or so, as well as creating a focal point for mums (and dads, of course!)  in the area, to keep up to date with upcoming events and perhaps to share their experiences with others who are at the same stage in their lives or with those who have been there before. I have even included a few ideas for day trips for the family to make the most of those weekends and holidays.

The how?

The how? is what makes Morleymums different. Whereas other, more national, sites try to appeal to a countrywide audience, Morleymums will stick to what it knows best, the Morley and South Leeds area. Furthermore, rather than rely solely on random contributions from our readers, Morleymums will be out there in the local community, talking to the people who count, the parents, and the people in the know, those who run the various events and provide the services we discuss on our website.

Saying that, however, once we are up and running, reader contributions will be welcomed with open arms. In particular, we are keen to hear your comments or experiences regarding the various services and events, whether good or bad (which we shall only be too happy to share with our readers), and also to understand exactly what you would like to see on the website, as, no doubt, different people will have different needs and have different levels of success in tracking down what they need to know.

Further, the website can only reach its full potential if we can gather as much information as possible about what is going on out there, whether in Morley, Leeds or in the surrounding areas, even where you are the organiser and are simply looking for a quick plug, so long as we believe it will be of interest to our readers. Whilst we will make every effort to keep our ears to the ground, all too often, you cannot beat word of mouth. We just hope that Morleymums can help speed up the process.
